2013 Advanced Academy

Challenging Ourselves in a Challenging Field

July 22 - 23, 2013

Presented by:

What is Texas Academy for Victim Assistance (TAVA)?

The focus of the 2013 academy was driven by the 2010 Texas Academy for Victim Assistance: Statewide Training Needs Assessment conducted by the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work.

This advanced academy provides an opportunity to study and interact with other victim service providers and have a meaningful dialogue about the challenges of providing consistent, high-quality, professional services to crime victims, their families, and communities.

Who Should Attend?

Victim service providers and advocates from nonprofit groups, law enforcement, prosecution, adult corrections, juvenile justice and allied professionals who assist victims of crime.

It is strongly recommended that participants have foundation level training in victim services.  Prior TVSA Conference, State or National Academy, formal training, either in person or online, provided by one of TVSA's partner agencies.

TAVA Overview

Topics of this real world, best practices, research-based academy include:

  • What does it mean to serve victims?
  • How do providers' values and beliefs affect service delivery?
  • Does organizational culture affect VSPs ability to provide services?
  • Implications of affording, or not affording, victims rights and how this relates to the healing process.

 HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

GOOD NEWS!

Has extended TAVA attendees a special rate of $145/night!

Unfortunately, TVSA was unable to secure a group government rate but it was indicated that TAVA participants are encouraged to ask for the government rate if it's available and with proper ID stating to the fact.

And, if you decide to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn they will provide TAVA attendees with a breakfast voucher...a $12.95 value!

Simply, let us know so we can provide the Hilton with your name and they will provide you with the voucher at the time of check in.

Please click on the link below which leads automatically to the special registration link they have set up for TAVA:
